On the weekend of October 28, Puss In Boots became the highest grossing movie ever to debut on a Halloween weekend. Even before grossing more than $34 million, Puss In Boots may boast its well-known cast. Specifically, Salma Hayek is easily one of the most recognized Mexican-American actresses.

Hayek is originally from Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz (Mexico). At the age of twelve, Hayek attended the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, Louisiana. After her education in the United States, Hayek returned to Mexico and attended the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City and studied International Relations.
Career:
After college, Hayek began to pursue an acting career. In 1988, Hayek debuted in a Mexican soap opera. Since then, Hayek has starred in over 10 television shows and more than 35 different movies. Throughout her career Hayek has earned admiration for her continuous work ethic as an actress. Most notably, Hayek was nominated for awards with her leading role in the biographical film, Frida.

Hayek remains active in her community. For instance, Hayek has worked to raise awareness on violence against women and discrimination against immigrants. In fact, Hayek supported the Violence Against Women Act and donated $25,000 to a women's shelter in her hometown. Moreover, Hayek supports breastfeeding and participated in a campaign where she breastfed a hungry child in Sierra Leone (video below).
